Motorola Droid 2 Exposure and Release Date

Motorola has just released its Droid X on Thursday. And finally, We have some good news for those of you holding out for the Motorola Droid 2. Verizon is supposedly prepping another new smartphone for its very popular Droid series -- The upcoming Motorola Droid 2 has been appeared partially specced in leaked version of Verizon's summer 2010 device catalog. Verizon will officially unveil the Motorola Droid X at a media event in New York on Wednesday. But I'd like to show you some about it in advance.

According to Verizon's Summer catalog that has leaked out early, the smartphone will have a 1 GHz processor, 8 GB memory card preinstalled with upto 16GB expandable memory, a 5 megapixel camera, and Wi-Fi hotspot software. And is pre-loaded with Froyo (aka Android 2.2). The catalog doesn't say when this model will be released beyond the vague note that it's "Coming soon". But I have get from a trustworthy source that we could expect the Motorola Droid 2 to release on August 23rd.

By all accounts, both phones feature nearly identical hardware inside and the software we saw running on the Droid 2 was the same as the Droid X. In many ways, the successor to the best-selling Android OS-based model isn't changing -- like the original, on the outside, not much has changed from the original Droid except for the upper bezel around the display and the redesigned keyboard. The top bezel is now a silver color and it slopes down near the bottom of the phone to cover up the entire bottom half.

I should note that there is no pricing information as of yet, but the Droid 2 is expected to land in your pocket for around $199 with a 2-year contract.
